Crimson Fist Space Marine
CG model of a Warhammer 40k Space marine, from the Crimson Fists Chapter. I wanted it be realistic in proportions and movability. Animation to follow :)
Modelled in 3DS Max, Alphas done in Mudbox, rendered in Mental ray.
So, ive now submitted all my Train2Game course work and now have 4-8 weeks to wait/kill while it is marked. Ill then have to re-do/re-submit whatever im asked and then do my Section 3 Exam.
After that i may have to do some extra work for City & Guilds, but ive no idea what that will be, if anything.

While im waiting, im doing some personal work. The X-Car is one part of it. The pilot/driver is the other.
Im really want to get some sculpting skills together, so im gonna try doing the pilot in Mudbox (or ZBrush) and then retopo him (or possibly her) in 3DS Max. The X-Car is currently having its images rendered out then its off into sculpting!

After all this, and assuming i pass my course, ive no idea what is next. Id like to think i can do some free lance work from home, being an artist in demand.
Can i manage this. I can only try my best :)

Hi dan. How long have you been doing this?
Did you do much before the course?
dan-cable Featured By Owner Mar 24, 2015
Been about 6-7 years now, as a hobby, but its near 3 years on the course

cool bud. keep up the good work dan
love to stay in touch mate. i really like how you texture and light stuff. im ok with textures but could do with knowing a bit more, as in more realistic stuff. i like doing scenes like interiors. im starting a new model of our living room, that may eventually become the whole house but i really want to make it look real as possible and have all the little extras that lay around and not just furniture.
any advice is very welcome mate.

The best advise I can give is practice, practice, practice. Practice by creating things YOU want to create. Be it your house, a car, a fantasy figure, whatever.
other advise:
Don't be put off by challenges you think you might face doing these creations, embrace the challenge, learn from the challenge.
The answer to any problem you come across is out there on the web somewhere, and if not, you may be doing it wrong. So try a different way. Adapt.
Also, don't skip stages in the creation process.
Start with sketchs, get the idea out you head onto paper (or photshop).
Play with these ideas and develop them. Ive wasted so much time in the past by jumping straight in to 3DS Max and trying to make it up as I go.
Ive always landed up with a disjointed, awkward, clearly not thought out final product.
If you are creating something from real life, get as much reference as possible and study it. Learn everything you can about its shape and form before you
even create a basic shape. There is nothing worse than trying to change the topology flow on a model because you have just noticed a major flaw/difference to the real thing.

If you have any problems or questions, or just want an honest opinion (as I expect others to give me) just ask :)
